The 4th International Language Congress on “Foreign Language Teaching and Linguistic Studies” Was Held

The 4th International Language Congress on “Foreign Language Teaching and Linguistic Studies” was held at Marmara University on December 14, 2023.

The congress concluded on December 15, 2023, with cultural visits organized for the participants to the Abdullah Tivnikli Practice Mosque and Cultural Center of the Faculty of Theology at Marmara University, Beylerbeyi Palace, and Çamlıca Mosque.

The two-day conference was organized through the collaboration of several prominent universities and institutions, including Marmara University, Bartın University, Constantine 1 – Frères Mentouri University, the Gulf Countries Arabic Language Education Center, Üsküdar Municipality, and Sonçağ Publishing Printing Advertising Industry and Trade Ltd. Co.

Mahmud Kaddum, Head of the Department of Translation and Interpreting (Arabic) at the Faculty of Letters of our university and one of the chairpersons of the congress organizing committee, stated that the conference hosted 140 participants from 28 countries, including academics, intellectuals, and specialists from various parts of the world.

The conference was held in conjunction with the World Arabic Language Day on December 18 and the International Istanbul Arabic Book Fair. Therefore, distinguished participants from various Arab, Islamic, and European countries attended the congress sessions to discuss key issues related to modern methods in foreign language teaching, exchange knowledge and experiences, and establish productive academic collaborations. Achieving significant outcomes and successfully completing the congress became a great source of pride for us.

Halil İbrahim Kaçar, Head of the Department of Arabic Language and Rhetoric at the Faculty of Theology of Marmara University and one of the chairpersons of the congress organizing committee, emphasized the importance of the Arabic language in language teaching and learning, the necessity of adopting modern strategies, and the role of digital tools. He also highlighted the importance of integrating the contributions of artificial intelligence technologies into the educational process.

Dr. Iman Jarboua, the conference coordinator from Constantine 1 – Frères Mentouri University, stated that the significance of the conference theme stems from addressing the relationship between language teaching and linguistics. She noted that linguistics has become a cognitive and methodological tool for clarifying pedagogical objectives on the one hand and overcoming challenges that hinder the educational process on the other.

The first day concluded with a poetry evening by the distinguished poet Anas Al-Daghim, followed by the presentation of plaques and certificates of participation.

The second day of the conference was devoted to visits to the International Istanbul Book Fair as well as cultural tours to some of the most important landmarks of the city of Istanbul.
